If you want retirement with wide open spaces, head for
Burns, the county seatof Harney County. Harney boasts 10,228 square miles of land
with just 7,600 friendly, hospitable folks. Harney is a gathering place for sportsmen and
provides good hunting for elk, antelope, and deer, as well as pheasants,
grouse, ducks and geese.
Established in 1889, Burns was named after Scottish poet Robert Burns and
has 2,900 residents. Neighboring Hines has a population of approximately
1,575. The Burns-Hines area has an average elevation of 4,148 feet.
